Greater Than Faith

Pastor Paul Phạm Sunday, October 4, 2026

Pride continually attempts to instrumentalize faith as an autonomous mechanism, converting spiritual trust into a legalistic leverage to manipulate divine power and secure personal desires. The narrative of the nobleman at Cana (John 4:43-54) exposes the profound limits of sensational, seeking faith. Driven by intense fatherly love and human desperation for his dying son, this high-ranking official traveled miles uphill, yet brought with him the cognitive limitations of natural religion—assuming Christ must physically "come down" and touch the child to effect healing. While rebuking the culture's addiction to miraculous signs, Jesus sovereignly responds not to performative merit, but to the plea of love.

By uttering a single, reality-altering decree—"Go; your son will live"—Christ demonstrates the supreme authority of His uncreated Word, which commands life and subdues death from a distance. Salvation is entirely monergistic; true faith does not demand empirical verification or frantic panic, but shifts radically into resting faith, anchoring the soul in the absolute promise of the Shepherd. The sovereign Word does not merely rescue an isolated individual, but extends covenantally to transform entire households, proving that divine love is infinitely greater than the fragility of human faith.
